Vanishing of the bees, environment, climate change, bee colony, queen bee, sustainability
We’ve all heard of the catastrophic effects of bee populations on food supplies and human life – so why are they disappearing?

The Vanishing of the Bees documents how pesticides, diseases and parasites are diminishing bee colony’s – known as colony collapse – and the ways industrial farming practices are playing a major role in their destruction.

“What is going on with the bees is an indicator that our food system is simply unsustainable”

What can you do?

1. Don’t use pesticides, or only sparingly use natural, chemical free and at night when bees aren’t flying
2. Support organic farming – no pesticides or chemicals means bee safe
3. Put pressure on your local member and support research into pesticide use
4. Plant pollen rich flowers in your garden to encourage native bee species
5. Become a beekeeper. I’m serious! I wish I had the space because apparently it isn’t that hard to set-up – see Beginning Beekeeping for more info
6. Spread the word – host a ‘Vanishing of the Bees’ screening

The clip below is pretty interesting, explains the difficult challenge we face with the muscle of corporate chemical producers… scary stuff
