These are so bloody RAD! I don’t really know what to say because the pages of Backpacker Magazine from the 70′s really speak for themselves – loud and clear: nature is ace.
Back then, they really knew how to appreciate nature — with tighter duds, awesome moes, splashes of faded red, sleeping bag parkers and nice, big spectacles.
Jokes aside, you gotta hand it to these guys – backpacking then wasn’t the walk in the park it is these days – it was truly exploring. No internet to book ahead, no ‘getting there and around’ instructions from a Lonely Planet (which was only in it’s infancy), no iPhone phrasebook app, no Google Earth and no facebook to keep in touch – it was all postcards baby!
Advertising sharks of today should take a leaf out of this book too, as a rule of thumb: don’t over think it man.
If you enjoy this blast from the past and want more, well hold onto your horses honey, because you can check out all the back issues of Backpacker mag on Google Books.
Swell, just swell.
