Sculpture by the sea 2011
Like a gazillion others, I took the annual Sculpture by the Sea pilgrimage along the spectacular Bondi to Bronte coast walk this year. Did you go?
Sweet sunshine returns
The sunshine returned to Sydney this weekend in a big way. After weeks of gloomy skies, spring time turned it’s sparkly light on – glistening on the sea and through the leaves – leaving us all feeling the glow knowing Summer is upon us… hooray!
{wallpaper} Heaven sent
Consider this Part II of last month’s ‘Morning Light’ wallpaper: same day, same glorious sun – different Sydney scene. To get your bearings, this is taken from Waverley Cemetery (see photo set of that here), the first point you’ve got in the distance is Mark’s Park at the head of Tamarama, then Ben Buckler off North [...]
photo set } Seaside souls
Hey hey and happy weekend! Don’t know about you, but things for me have been heckers this week. So, I’m planning to seriously unwind with two of my fave gals of all time to do the east side sea side walk just like we did last Saturday. Hope we see whales again this week! I’ve [...]
{wallpaper} Mannequin among the blooms
Hellooooo Friday! And a special hello to my long time listeners who may recognise recognise this shot from my Spring has sprung! collection last September at the David Jones flower show. I’ve always loved this photo… the contrast of plastic and petals, the balance of face and flowers, the reflection of park on shop glass. [...]
Photo set } Bondi to Bronte
Sitting here this week you wouldn’t believe it was above 20ºC on the weekend – it’s sooo c-c-cold!!! I guess sometimes we don’t realise how good we have it in Sydney, really, when the sun comes out the coastline turns on a magnificent show, just like it did last Sunday. The Bondi to Bronte walk is a [...]
{photo set} rock moss
Praying for another Saturday morning like last week: crisp, still air, with the light glistening all green, navy and gold. With a super low tide, the mossy rocks at south Maroubra were a colourful sight in the early glow, so sweet to be outside. Have yourself a nice weekend now. X [rss-cut]
{wallpaper} Little dunes
Can you feel it? Yep, Summer is here! Alleluia! After a few weeks of rain that we thought would never stop, the sun is beaming, the air thick with warm at dawn, and down at the beach, the sand is a-buzz with walking, jogging, stretching, swimming, running… people and dogs. This week’s wallpaper is from [...]
{photo set} Night noodles
Every October hundreds of city folk flock to Hyde Park for the Night Noodle Markets as part of the Sydney Crave International Food Festival. It’s a sensory overload really, stepping out of the office into a sweet spring evening with a bunch of friends, sharing delicious exotic dishes under the glow of oriental lanterns with [...]
{photo set} This is park life
Have I mentioned September is my absolute favourite month? It’s not hard to see why — glorious blue skies; light breezes; bright, bright sunlight sans burn. Last Saturday was a storybook scene in Centennial Park: laughing picnickers, ball-kicking kids, fluffy ducklings, babies in prams – I swear it could have been a washing powder commercial. [...]
Smart thinking: Randwick Eco Living Fair
It’s nice to know our council rates go towards great community events such as the annual Randwick Eco Living Fair. Everything from Permaculture to pony rides, this year’s fair was packed with practical ideas for making your home more environmentally inclined. It was a colourful affair with crowds gathering for workshops, more than 50 exhibitors [...]
{photo set} Spring has sprung!
I love Spring for many, many reasons – one being the spectacular David Jones annual Flower Show. This year marks the event’s 25th anniversary and, my oh my, the occasion is being celebrated with suitably breathtaking displays. Showing until September 12th at their Sydney Elizabeth Street store, you simply must drop by if you’re in [...]
{photo set} You can Hyde in the city
Some mornings I hop off the bus a few stops early to walk through Hyde Park in a last second attempt to save myself from the city, even if just for 5 minutes. On crystal clear days, like the one below, there’s something so magical about sunlight sparkling through the leaves, the comforting canopy of [...]
Free wheelin’ billy
IF you recall our Antique antics: top tips for the second hand shopper story a little while back, you’ll be pleased to know that my husband and I have since followed rule #6 and had a good dig through a recent roadside collection. Yes, we felt like bums, but that anguish has paid off ten [...]
{photo set} Them bright city lights
This post goes out to all those unfortunate souls making the slow drive out of Sydney on a Friday night. If not timed just right this trip can be hell, especially when heading for the F3 motorway – a trip I’ve made far too many times to remember. This photo set comes from one such [...]
Light fantastic: Sydney Vivid festival
The stunning Sydney Vivid festival came to a close over the weekend, held around Circular Quay, Hyde Park and Macquarie Street. Brilliant lighting installations and projections illuminated St Mary’s Cathedral, the Opera house and other icons on the Harbour. I know what you’re thinking…. lots of lights = waste of energy, but you’ll be pleased [...]
Rain, rain and more rain…
Is it just me or are other Sydneysiders worried that the sun has packed up and moved to another universe? Was it something we said? If you arrived here any time in the last week expecting blue skies, chances are you’ve booked a ticket outta here….. explains the empty bus this morning. Ah well, has [...]
Warmer in than out
In Sydney we’re blessed with ocean baths galore. Taking a dip in the salty depths of the calmer water next to the waves is no new craze, it’s an Australian obsession that started in the early 1900′s and there’s [rss-cut]over 100 of these pools dotted along the New South Wales coastline alone. Heading into winter [...]
Feed the birds…
Nice moment, isn’t it? I swung around at the the sound of wings whipping the air as cranes, doves and seagulls scrambled to get a piece of the feast. What I love most about this is the girl who seems completely caught up in the present, nothing but her and the birds, not thinking about [...]
Autumn fog blankets Sydney
Over the past few mornings, a peaceful autumn fog has descended over eastern Australia. Here are some shots from[rss-cut] Bronte Beach, 6am Sunday 2nd May, 2010.
Surf art by Dédé Nafi
This summer we adopted a gypsy. A french, surfing, artistic gypsy. Well, he’s not exactly a gypsy but he sure can play guitar like one of those french gypsy masters. And that’s not all he’s good at. Dédé Nafi is an incredibly talented artist specialising in graffiti, illustration and posca creations on practically any surface, [...]
