Things have been pretty chaotic on this floating rock lately, haven’t they?! It’s hard to write about something that doesn’t seem meaningless or trivial while so many are trying to make sense of their sadness. Perspective does that to you. In the grand scheme of things etc. etc.
Thing is, it has always been chaotic here.
When we go on about trying to save the world, while certainly a worthwhile mission, as we’ve seen over the past few months – mother earth will go on with or without us. Climate change or not, the continents will continue to shift, volcanoes will go on erupting and weather will always reek havoc with our homes. Humbling and heartbreaking as it might be.
What matters in the end are those who are important to you.
Today we’re bidding farewell to some dear friends we made traveling in Brazil last year. We met them two weeks into their year long journey around the world, a journey that bought them to Sydney four months later. We will really, really miss them.
What we have in common is the world. And an appreciation for Brian Cox who does a brilliant job of reminding us how insignificant we are in the universe. Some day the sun will burn out and leave a massive black hole, ready for it all to start again. Or not.
What can you do? Go and see the earth in all her glory, enjoy time with those you love, tell them how you feel and be happy while it lasts.
The Flaming Lips sum it up perfectly in ‘Do you realize?’
“Instead of saying all of your goodbyes – let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It’s hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn’t go down
It’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round”
